FAQs

Answers to Common Questions.

How long does installation take?

Approximately 3-4 hours for a standard install, custom installations, involving certain additional works, may take longer.

Will my power need to be turned off, and how long for?

We will need to switch your power off for no longer than 30 minutes, and will always give an estimated time and 5 minute warning before doing this.

Do I need planning permission?

No. It is a requirement to notify your DNO (Distribution Network Operator) that you intend to have an EV Charger installed, but we handle that as part of our service.

Will I get an electrical certificate?

Yes, we provide a full electrical installation certificate, sent via email, shortly after your installation.

How do I know which charger is best for me?

We will discuss exactly what you are looking for from your charger, (for example tethered or untethered, cheap and simple or top of the market, small and discreet or a larger unit etc.) then we will make our recommendations based on your answers.

What is an SPD (Surge Protection Device)?

We include an SPD as standard with all of our installations, at no additional cost. You can learn more about the purpose of installing an SPD here: https://electrical.theiet.org/courses-resources-and-career/free-resources/consumer-guidance/surge-protective-devices/

How long should I expect to wait between the booking and my installation date?

The average wait time is 2-3 weeks, however we can occasionally accommodate you sooner in some circumstances.

What is the difference between a standard and a custom install?

Most installations are standard, where the cable route is straightforward and less than 10 meters. Sometimes certain property layouts can make the cable route difficult, or cable length required to exceed 10m.

There may also be upgrades required to the existing electrical installation before we can complete your install, however this will be ironed out at the quotation stage and any additional costs above the standard installation price, will be made clear as to why and how much.

As we are focused on our customer relationships, we aim to be fair and reasonable with the cost for any extra work required, and will assess this on a case by case basis, as any property that requires a custom install, will have its own unique challenges.
